New hardware expansion for the Philips NMS 1205 Music Module
   Hardware
   Written by Repair Bas
   Saturday 16 January 2010 - 10:41

The Philips NMS 1205 Music Module can now be expanded with a circuit board. On this circuit board you’ll find 256 KB memory which is used for demos like Unknown Reality of the software group NOP.
Besides that you’ll find a MSX-Audio Basic ROM. Now you can use the Music Module in Basic with easy to use commands like _AUDIO (this will play music which is written for the FM-PAC through the Music Module). All Basic commands for the FM-PAC will work on the Music Module with this expansion.
Software like Compile software (Disc Station, Golvellius, Gorby’s Pipeline) will work with this expansion.

At this moment we are working on a new ROM software version which will support the original Philips NMS 1205 Music Module software.

This expansion will also become available for the Toshiba HX-MU900 Music Module.

This expansion will be delivered by WWW.BAS-DITTA.INFO & WWW.SUPERSONIQS.COM.

This expansion will be sold as package which you can build in yourself (you need to have some soldering experience) or which can be build in by us.

The prices:

Philips NMS 1205 Music Module expansion kit: € 35,--
Philips NMS 1205 Music Module expansion kit including installation: € 45,--

A simple, step by step guide to learning to program in machine code. Not MSX specific, but will help to understand the basics and often the hardest part in getting started.

FIXBOOT v1.1 and R-Type Improvement Addition
   Software
   Written by BiFiMSX
   Sunday 10 January 2010 - 16:33

In the first week of 2010 Albert Beevendorp released an updated version of FixBoot and an R-Type Improvement Addition.

FixBoot is a tool that fixes a problem that is caused by FDISK 3.10 that prevents useful MSX-DOS2 commands like UNDEL to work. The problem is the Volume ID isn't set according to MSX-DOS2 specifications. This is what FixBoot fixes. Version 1.1 fixes a small bug that caused disks/paritions with the so-called dirty disk flag set not to be corrected. It also has an option to force creation of the Volume ID to be according to the MSX-DOS2 specifications. This only works with FAT12 partitions.

Some time ago a patch for an improved version of R-Type was released. However, that version did some changes to the game that may have given a lighter interrupt handler, but it also tended to regularly crash during the game with MSX-MUSIC detected. This version comes in a ROM image that searches for R-Type and MSX-MUSIC and allows to start the game via a menu.

Both are available in the download section of BiFi's Home Page.
